Prentice “Tripp” Brower | Executive Director
Born in the Lowcountry and raised on the water, Tripp has had a continually growing passion for all things maritime. Tripp has been sailing since he was six years old, and teaching others to sail since the age of 15. While pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science at the College of Charleston, he developed a new passion and interest for sustaining and cultivating healthy communities. After graduation, Tripp apprenticed as a wooden boat builder in Mount Pleasant for two years. In that time, he came to know the Charleston community at a much deeper level, especially the people who work in Charleston’s maritime industries. In 2014 Prentice teamed up with Matthew Milling and formed the Lowcountry Maritime Society. The program proved to be a great success! Now Prentice is working to lead the organization and to expand the depth of programs and to bring LMS programs to all coastal communities in the region.

Zoë Coombs | Site Coordinator
Zoë Coombs has worked with kids of all ages since she was one herself. Most notably, she led educational demonstrations and workshops with the Lowcountry Hall of Science and Math (LHSM), and NASA Southeast Regional Clearing House (SERCH) for nearly 11 years. Her love for woodworking began with a summer project — building an 18′ Greenland kayak with her fiancé. Zoë has always liked working with her hands, which has included designing jewelry since she was 10-years-old, and dabbling in both glass blowing and blacksmithing. Given her love for being in and on the water, sailing was a natural passion discovered in 2009. Zoë graduated from the College of Charleston in 2008 with a BA in History and Political Science, and is working on her MS in Energy and Environmental Policy. Any time not spent at LMS is currently dedicated to planning her wedding, set to take place at the end of October.

José Jimenez | Site Coordinator
José is a native of Houston, TX, and has worked as an outdoor educator in various locations. He is an experienced and avid climber, loves backpacking, and enjoys a wide variety of sports. He has traveled to Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador and Alaska. After taking a break from the educator role, he decided to try his hand in carpentry. He has worked in a cabinet shop, traditional chair building school, a construction crew, and an antique furniture restoration shop. José received his undergraduate degree in Outdoor Education from Warren Wilson College, and recently moved to Charleston to pursue a degree in Timber Framing from the American College of the Building Arts. He hopes that teaching youth about his two passions — woodworking and playing in the outdoors — will spark the same excitement that brought him here today.
